Black People, Why Can’t We Unite

“There can be no Black-white unity until there is first some Black unity. There can be no workers’ solidarity until there is first some racial solidarity. We cannot think of uniting with others, until after we have first united among ourselves. We cannot think of being acceptable to others until we have first proven acceptable to ourselves. One can’t unite bananas with scattered leaves.” Malcolm X

Why can’ we unite?

Why can’t we stop blaming each other?

Why can’t we stop doing exactly what our oppressors want?

Given the ongoing challenges facing the black community in America, it is clear that blacks are the most divided ethnic group and need to unite. Black people, we need to unite and support one another, be it in business or other areas. For a better future, black people, we need to unite and stop criticizing each other and negating one another. Our community must find unity to enhance togetherness and its institutions and heritage that has been long lost and destroyed by the absence of unity. Unity in our community is needed from schools, workplaces, and society at large, among other areas.

There are so many benefits that come with the unity of our community, for when we get united, we thrive or work towards success. These benefits include, but are not limited to, the power of numbers that gives us a voice to be heard. The power of voice hence helps us fight injustice and mistreatments when facing them.  This benefit of one voice brings institutional changes, especially when we present our issues for a specific purpose. Finally, when us, blacks get united, we will get rid of colorism, which is one of the most misunderstood and ignored mental-health predicament in our communities in America. Getting rid of colorism through unity further reduces the emotional impact that colorism has on African Americans, as unity helps them embrace who they are and support one another.

With all the challenges that African Americans have endured in America, African Americans must be united. We all must find unity within ourselves as people while working towards accepting each other’s diversity. More division among us, blacks, only impacts us negatively. Similarly, unity helps us stand up to anything. Black leaders should channel similar efforts by calling for unity.

Keeping in mind the challenges mentioned above and the endurance black people have faced, there is a need for unity to succeed and have a better future.
