The best free shooting games for Android and iOS

Are you a fan of FPS and TPS games? If yes, keep reading. In this article, I will be talking about the top free shooting games in the Play Store and the AppStore.

Top Free Shooting Games (FPS & TPS) on the Play Store and AppStore:

  • Critical Ops
  • Modern Combat: Versus
  • Lonewolf
  • Modern Combat 5
  • Danger Close
  • PUBG Mobile
  • Shadowgun legends
  • Call Of Duty: Mobile
  • Fortnite Battle Royale

Critical Ops

If you enjoy Counter-Strike, you should hook up with Critical Ops. Slightly more difficult to pick up than the other titles mentioned in this selection, Critical Ops is probably one of the best multiplayer FPSs currently available for free download on Android and iOS. It is also one of the most tactical games.

The title offers 3 game modes: team deathmatch, arms race, and bomb-defusing (hence the reciprocity with CS: GO, in particular). The games (quick, personalized, or ranked) are linked quickly thanks to short and fair matchmaking that will always place you against opponents of your level.

Modern Combat: Versus

Modern Combat: Versus is an exclusively multiplayer online first-person shooter, available for free on Android and iOS. Released 3 years after Modern Combat 5: Blackout, the title offers even more agents to play (17 in total), all equipped with weapons and skills specific to their class, as well as 6 different maps. Same like Destiny 2, the game works with a ranked season system. Likewise, it is possible to create or join a clan in order to play with other players. Although we can regret the brevity and the slightly repetitive side of the online games, Modern Combat: Versus is a graphically successful FPS game, fun, and extremely easy to use.

Lonewolf

Lonewolf is a free sniper game set in a “film noir” atmosphere, rather atypical for the genre. The script navigation, in a graphic novel style, undoubtedly recalls the cut scenes of the first Max Payne. In gameplay, the game does not go through four paths: you usually start your target mission’s in play, and all you have to do is concentrate, aim straight, and shoot. Simple, but enjoyable!

More than twenty weapons can be unlocked through a scenario that is both intense and intriguing, all for a notable lifespan of around 6 hours. We only regret the aging interface of the game, which for example does not yet support full screen on screens without borders.

Modern Combat 5

Released a few years ago, but regularly updated, Modern Combat 5 is the latest opus from one of Gameloft’s most famous franchises. Playable solo or in a team, the game allows you to choose between 9 customizable characters, all playable in solo or multiplayer mode, from commando to grenadier, via sniper, etc. Each character has its unique abilities and skill points, in addition to many customizable items such as weapons or outfits.

Whether in the multiplayer or single-player campaign, Modern Combat 5 is a free FPS with particularly easy-to-use touch controls (a rather rare thing on Smartphone’s, let’s be honest). Especially since they are customizable, and that is an excellent point. The only downside: the multiplayer connection is sometimes unstable when playing with cellular data.

Danger Close

Danger Close is the latest in this selection of the best free shooting games for Android and iOS. Less well-known than the titles listed above, this multiplayer FPS with a “cartoon” aspect will delight those looking for a title that is both light and easy to learn, without registration or introduction. It will also be ideal for those who have difficulty aiming with the touch controls since the shooting is done automatically, as soon as you hold an enemy in your sight. Nine maps and three game modes are currently available: 5v5 deathmatch, every man for himself, and the now-classic Battle Royale.

Despite the presence of in-app purchases (free-to-play), the game store only offers skins and other purely cosmetic items. The only downside, the game is currently only available in English, which won’t necessarily be a problem, however, given the multiplayer nature of the title.

PUBG Mobile

As its name suggests, PUBG Mobile is none other than the Smartphone port of Player Unknown’s Battleground, one of the references of Battle Royale type games. It includes all the features of the game, all with touch controls. Movements are made using a virtual stick while aiming is done by moving your finger on the screen. Several additional keys provide access to the backpack, viewfinder, squatting, or lying position or jumping. As always, the objective will be to be the last survivor among a group of a hundred players on an island whose viable area is gradually shrinking.

Touch controls are less obvious than with the keyboard-mouse combination on a computer. The publisher Tencent having indeed added many bots for the first parts, in order to familiarize you with the touch controls. The game remains effective with good doses of adrenaline.

Shadowgun legends

Released in 2018, Shadowgun Legends propels the player into a futuristic universe where he embodies a warrior. “Shadowgun” intended to defend humanity against ill-intentioned aliens.

Shadowgun Legends is a shooter that plays in the big leagues: we could compare it to a Destiny mobile version. Its strong point is its different game modes: single-player campaign, cooperative missions, but also a multiplayer PVP. Another appreciable point is its RPG touch, with different skills to unlock, but also skins and pieces of armor. The game does not have to clutter up a class system; the player can create the shadowgun they want, and thus enjoy a unique playstyle, contain more than 600 different weapons; An FPS game with high-end graphics taking advantage of particularly successful tactile handling.

Call of Duty: Mobile

When an AAA game is derived from a huge license that lands on mobile, generally, “it passes, or it breaks”. In the case of Call of Duty, good news: it’s okay Ideal for pushing your Smartphone’s graphics chip to its limits and perfect if you are looking for a portable shooter, Call of Duty: Mobile is an efficient game that offers a very complete experience for a free mobile game.

Even if it is necessary to manage to take its marks (touch screen requires), this FPS is rather pleasant to play on a Smartphone. It also enjoys a relatively short matchmaking system compared to games of the same genre, perfect for a quick game. Several modes are available, from the classic Deathmatch to the Battle Royale mode (Blackout style of Black Ops 4), including Domination or Search and Destruction. It is also possible to customize your equipment, without necessarily having to go through the microtransactions.

Fortnite Battle Royale

An island, a pickaxe, 100 players, chests, guns, and a Battle Bus…  Is it really necessary to present Fortnite, this huge video game phenomenon? Both a third-person shooter and multiplayer action game, Fortnite is above all a colorful and highly addicting Battle Royale that has constantly been able to renew itself since its release in 2017. Playable solo or in teams (2 or 4), the goal of a game of Fortnite is to survive on an island against 99 other players, using weapons and harvestable resources. Small specificity of the game, Fortnite includes a build system to defend and hide better.

A regularly updated map and regular additions (emotes, skins, guns, etc.), Fortnite Battle Royale is a great free action game to have on your Android or iOS smartphones.
