PS5 post-launch: All you need to know about the latest PlayStation 5

The long-awaited PS5 is finally here. And it is truly a generation leap in the world of console gaming.

Sony has always been one of the leaders of console gaming.  But they elevated the console gaming world to a whole new level after their PS5 lunch. Unlike the previous-gen play station, this time Sony came out braver and more concerned about the user perspective.

Ps5 is without a doubt a monster of a console. It offers veteran play station users a chance to play almost all of their PS4 games. YES, complete backward compatibility from a Sony machine.

But it still offers the latest hardware and a gaming experience that we have never seen before.

So, without further ado, let us dive right in into the PS5 post-lunch review, and see what the console has to offer.

Design

The first thing that comes to mind after thinking about the PS5 is its futuristic design. It has a dimension of 390 x 104 x 260mm and weighs around 4 to 5 KG.

For connections, it comes with,

  1. HDMI 2.1
  2. 3 x USB 3.1
  3. USB-C
  4. Ethernet
  5. WI-FI
  6. Bluetooth 5.1

It is arguably the tallest gaming console we have ever experienced, but also the heaviest as well. Nevertheless, the elegant touch of the aerodynamic design is just something you can not take your eyes off once you have seen it first-hand.

The white plates on the sides act as protection for the main console hardware. And just underneath the plates, there are massive cooling fans that make sure the console does not face any overheating issue like their previous-gen model.

The striking LED lights on both sides of the console are much more pronounced and look amazing. The only concern for the design is that due to the very tall chassis one may trip it over. But other than that Sony did a solid one when it comes to the futuristic aesthetics of the PS5.

DualSense controller

The new DualSense controller from Sony is a huge step forward in the right direction. We, at last, have found a controller that feels like it was designed having humans in mind.

It harnesses some of the technologies that came with the dual shock 4 and adds some significant changes to make the experience even better.

And the main focus of these controllers is the adaptive resistance triggers. This triggers opened up the road for developers to more directly stimulate the trigger full of various guns,  the tension you will feel while drawing a bow or driving a car through the muddy roads.

The feedback of the trigger is surprisingly strong, instantaneous, and unexpectedly immersive. You can enjoy this while you are playing single-player games to get the most out of your gaming experience and turn it off when you are playing competitive games.

The haptic feedback on the controller is smooth and crisp. The feedback is much more refined and precise to resemble the experience of your gaming environment.

The thing we must consider is that the haptic feedback and the adaptive trigger is sure to drain the battery life.

Performance and Hardware

If you are looking to invest in the new-gen PlayStation 5, you are definitely going to be impressed with its performance and hardware.

For this PS5 processor, Sony has opted for the new Ryzen side of things rather than the traditional intel domination. The PS5 has an AMD Ryzen two main processors with eight cores. It also offers a Radeon RDNA 2-based GPU that has 10.3 teraflops of power and 16 GB of the latest GDDR6 Ram.

It has 825 GB of SSD that offers a very fast loading time for games. And combined with the 8 core processors, this console is the fastest we have ever seen when it comes to loading time and response time.

There is also an M.2 expansion slot beneath the faceplates. But it is still not supported post-lunch, and we will have to wait for further updates from the developers.

The saving grace from this complexity is, as long as your hard drive or solid-state drive is USB 3 or above, you can just hook it up to the PS5 and game without any hassle.

User Interface

The whole console experience feels much snappy and fast due to the PS5’s brand new UI. Even though it is still the refined version of the previous ps3’s XrossMediaBar, but it offers some new features.

The remote play feature on the PS5 allows you to stream your game to your PS4 in another room. The game switcher is also very handy.

Also, the fresh 4k HDR UI gives the PS5 the next-gen feel that it deserves compared to the Xbox.

PS5 vs The new XBOX

Speaking of Xbox now might be a good time to make a comparison between two of the leading gaming console on the market.

The Xbox Series X’s SSD has a raw Throughput of 2.4 GB/s. And the play station more than doubles that with a 5.5 GB/s speed.

When we compare the visuals of multi-platform titles, both consoles perform quite similar due to their similar architecture.

The raytracing on the PlayStation 5 knocks Xbox out of the park with superb visuals. But it is locked into 30 FPS. So if you are someone who values the details of the graphic more than anything and loves to enjoy the casual gameplay, PS5 is the way to go.

To conclude

The thing that impressed us the most is PS5’s ability to smoothly continue to play the game from the previous-gen console, Something we have wanted for years. And with the monster of a machine you are getting from Sony, it is worth every penny. So without any worry in the world, get your hands on the Sony PS5, and start gaming.
